Improving the nutritional status of children

DIREKT FRÅN ZAMBIA Plan Zambia under the Post code Lottery in Chibombo trained 60 volunteers in the Positive Deviance Hearth approach (PD Hearth). PD hearth is an approach that aims at rehabilitating and sustaining under five years children who may be malnourished by putting them on a feeding program for 12 days using locally available foods in their homes or community. The nutritional statuses of children were established by weighing and or measuring the height of the children and compare the readings with their age. The results were then checked on the World Health Organization (WHO) provisions in the weight for age standards table. The children who were found to be malnourished were put on a 12 days feeding program to improve their nutritional status.
